Individual Sessions

Individual music therapy sessions are specifically designed and planned for each client.

We consider the clients sensory needs, and other factors to determine what interventions are best to help them meet their goals.

Goals are based on your assessment after 4 sessions with us.

Sessions may take place in  • our studio  • your home • virtually

Sessions are usually held weekly, twice-weekly or biweekly.

Sessions are between thirty to sixty minutes depending on the client's needs.

What happens in a session?

Okay, you found out about music therapy, yay!

We're always prepared to answer the next question... so what do we actually do in sessions?

It's such an important and insightful question.

And the answer is... tricky!

Our practice is music-centered (meaning most of the session is making-music, not talking) and

client-centered (meaning we focus on each clients music preferences, sensory needs, other interests, communication style).

Ultimately, this means that each session looks a bit different!

A typical session with us could look like...

• client comes in with parent

• music therapist offers shakers and sings a welcoming song

• client starts singing another song

• music therapist joins in and they improvise new lyrics together

• music therapist offers drumming

• client participates in copying rhythm patterns with support of a parent

• music therapist introduces written notation of a quarter note

• music therapist and client improvise a drumming song about the weather together

• client stands up and wants to move around

• music therapist sings a movement song with instructions for different body parts

• music therapist offers a xylophone with letters

• client bring it to their parent and they help find the letters of clients name

• music therapist teaches them how to play Down by the Bay

• they sing a goodbye song together
